This year has started off interesting, the weather was warm, then cold, then snow, then rain, now it's warm again. This winter was just... weird, there is really no better word for it. When was the last time the rivers opened up to paddle in early April? Now that it is the beginning of June it is time for the real summer to begin! The warm weather, the green trees and grass. The baby animals are being born and the insects are coming out.
Friends of Quetico is open and excited for a brand new summer filled with new and old friends, new adventures and most excitingly new products. Here at Friends of Quetico the staff are eagerly waiting to meet each and every one of you, and share in the joys and wonder that comes from spending the summer in the Canoeing Capital of Canada.
Friends of Quetico Park, established in 1984 (yes we are forty years old this year!), is a community based not-for-profit charitable organization whose primary goal is the preservation of Quetico Provincial Park as a unique wilderness area. The Friends are comprised of a dedicated volunteer board of directors, general membership, and a cheery, excited staff that serves administrative and sales needs.
We hope that 2024 will be filled with exciting stories, adventures and trips for each and every one of you and we can't wait to hear them all when you stop by to check out our new line-up of products (stay tuned a post will be up very soon!). And remember the profits generated by merchandise sales, memberships and donations, all go back into this majestic park and helps to enhance the interpretive, educational and recreational objectives of Quetico Provincial Park. Whether you are buying from our online store, from our main store at the Pavilion or through one of the remote entry stations you are helping give back to this incredible park and the nature that is so easily enjoyed here.
So here is to 40 years at Quetico and here is to 40 more. We can't wait to see what exciting adventures await us all in 2024.
